Ron Paul, Civil Liberties Groups Decry Killing of American Militant Without a Trial

Texas Rep. Ron Paul, who is running for the Republican presidential nomination, cried foul Friday over the killing of a radical U.S.-born cleric in Yemen without a trial, joining a chorus of civil liberties groups raising "due process" concerns over the drone attack.

"No one likes these kind of people, but I also like the rule of law and I like our Constitution, that you don't just target people, assassinate them, someone who has not been charged and you have no proof of anything," Paul told Fox News. "So if we want to protect American citizens from that type of justice, we have to be more cautious."

BEIJING – For all the grief the Obama administration is getting from China for filing a complaint with the World Trade Organization about Chinese tariffs on American chicken exports, perhaps the president should be suing China for royalties instead.

We’ve seen Obama peddle chicken for Kentucky Fried Chicken in Hong Kong, so it was just a matter of time before he broke loose and got his own franchise here in the mainland.

Obama Fried Chicken, or at least what we assume OFC stands for, was found earlier this week in Beijing and comes with the slogan written underneath in Chinese: “We’re so cool, aren’t we?”

Gradient Green Leopard!

Hello! So today's mani is a gradient green leopard...and I am loving it!!! This is my first successful gradient manicure.  I used my Kleancolor Metallic polishes in green, aqua, and blue.  Then I used the metallic black and my trusty Konad M57 leopard stamping plate.  My pictures don't do this justice, but in person it looks fabulous!!! Enjoy!

Rezwan Ferdaus: Mass. Man Planned to Blow Up Pentagon

A Massachusetts man was arrested Wednesday and accused of plotting an assault on the Pentagon and U.S. Capitol using remote-controlled aircraft armed with explosives — the latest of several terrorism cases to spring from federal sting operations.

Rezwan Ferdaus was arrested in Framingham after undercover federal agents delivered materials he had allegedly requested, including grenades, six machine guns and what he believed was 24 pounds of C-4 explosive. Federal officials said the public was never in danger from the explosives, which it said were always under control and closely monitored.

Wednesday's arrest was similar to other cases in which reputed would-be terrorists were caught in sting operations that revolved around fictional plots against various targets, such as Dallas skyscapers or a Chicago nightclub. In this case, though, authorities say Ferdaus planned the scheme.

According to a federal affidavit, Ferdaus, 26, of Ashland, became convinced America was evil through jihadi websites and videos, and began planning "jihad" against the U.S. in early 2010. He contacted a federal informant that December and months later, allegedly began meeting to discuss the plot with undercover federal agents he believed were members of al-Qaida. Read More

A Layering Experiment

Hello! I have a little layering experiment to show you all today.  I started with WnW "Buy Me A Drink", and then I decided to add OPI "It's My Year" over it.  At first I wasn't sure if I liked it, but the more and more I look at it, the more I like it.  In certain lights, it almost looks brown or copper, to me it resembles WnW "Cougar Attack".  In the pictures with the flash you can see more of the berry color.  I think it's a perfect fall manicure.  Enjoy!

(As you can see it looks gold in some lights and angles and others the berry wine shows through.  I think the OPI "It's My Year" really makes this a fun combination! Pardon the band aid, I burned my finger and also pardon the cuticles, I hadn't done the full clean up yet!)

Obama’s Unyielding Loyalty to Planned Parenthood

President Obama likes to talk a lot about compromise. But when it comes to taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood, America’s abortion giant, Obama’s loyalty is unyielding.

After all, Planned Parenthood is one of President Obama’s top political allies.

• In a 2007 speech to Planned Parenthood Action Fund, then-candidate Obama told the audience, “On this fundamental issue, I will not yield, and Planned Parenthood will not yield.” [1]

• In its 2008 endorsement of then-candidate Obama, Planned Parenthood Action Fund made just its second presidential endorsement in its history, noting his 100% voting record with Planned Parenthood dating back to his time as a state senator in Illinois. Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards exclaimed, “there is no organization better positioned to reach out to women voters than the Planned Parenthood Action Fund. We will do all that we can to support Barack Obama…” [2]

• During the 2008 and 2010 election cycles alone, Planned Parenthood spent over $1.7 million dollars to help elect President Obama and support his fellow pro-abortion Democrats. [3a] [3b]

And since taking over the Oval Office, President Obama has rewarded Planned Parenthood by going above and beyond to protect their hundreds of millions of dollars in taxpayer funding.

• During fiscal year 2009, Planned Parenthood reported receiving over $363 million dollars in government grants and contracts – an all-time record – boosting their annual budget to over $1 billion. [4]

• In February of 2011, in response to undercover videos by Live Action in which Planned Parenthood employees show a willingness to aid and abet in alleged sex trafficking of minors, Obama called it a “manufactured” issue, noting that “Planned Parenthood in the past has done good work.” While conceding that Planned Parenthood should “address” any specific problems, he said that Americans “shouldn’t get so distracted with some of these issues that we ignore what really determines how well our kids do in the future.”[5]

• In response to Live Action’s videos and a desire to get taxpayers out of the abortion business, the House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly to defund Planned Parenthood by a 240-185 vote in the Continuing Resolution to fund the federal government in February, 2011. [6]
  
• When Speaker Boehner demanded that the cut be a part of the final Continuing Resolution deal to keep the federal government from shutting down, President Obama refused to cut a dime. When pushed by Speaker Boehner to agree to cuts, President Obama responded, “Nope, zero. Nope, zero. John, this is it.” [7]

Thanks to special protection from President Obama, not a dime was cut from Planned Parenthood’s taxpayer funding at the federal level. However, since the federal fight, nine states across the country have defunded Planned Parenthood of over $60 million. [8] The Obama Administration has responded by trying to strong-arm and even bypass the decisions made by these states.

• In June 2011, after Gov. Mitch Daniels signed into law a bill defunding Planned Parenthood, the Obama Administration responded by declaring their law to be “illegal.” [9] Furthermore, the Obama Administration told the state that if it did not change the law, Health and Human Services would consider pulling the state’s Medicaid funding, which totals $4.3 billion dollars. Planned Parenthood released a statement saying, “The HHS letter is a strong rebuke to Indiana and serves as a warning to other states that attempts to  bar federal funding for Planned Parenthood.” [10]

• After declaring Indiana’s law to be illegal, HHS issued a warning to other states stating that they are not permitted to “exclude providers from the program solely on the basis of the range of medical services they provide.” [11]
  

• In September 2011, responding to a decision made by the elected members of New Hampshire’s Executive Council to reject a $1.8 million dollar contract with Planned Parenthood, the Obama Administration bypassed the state and contracted directly with Planned Parenthood. The non-competitive contract outraged local officials, with Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) responding, “New Hampshire’s Executive Council has spoken on this matter, and the (Obama) administration should respect the state’s right to make this decision."[12] Read More: http://www.sba-list.org/turnoffthemusic

Mexican Drug Cartels Torture, Decapitate Blogger !!!

MEXICO CITY -- Police found the body of a woman who had been decapitated in a Mexican border city on Saturday, alongside a handwritten sign saying she was killed in retaliation for her postings on a social networking site.

The gruesome killing may be the third so far this month in which people in Nuevo Laredo were killed by a drug cartel for what they said on the Internet.

Morelos Canseco, the interior secretary of northern Tamaulipas state, where Nuevo Laredo is located, identified the victim as Marisol Macias Castaneda, a newsroom manager for the Nuevo Laredo newspaper Primera Hora.

The newspaper has not confirmed that title, and an employee of the paper said Macias Castaneda held an administrative post, not a reporting job. The employee was not authorized to be quoted by name.

But it was apparently what the woman posted on the local social networking site, Nuevo Laredo en Vivo, or "Nuevo Laredo Live," rather than her role at the newspaper, that resulted in her killing.

The site prominently features tip hotlines for the Mexican Army, navy and police, and includes a section for reporting the location of drug gang lookouts and drug sales points -- possibly the information that angered the cartel.

The message found next to her body on the side of a main thoroughfare referred to the nickname the victim purportedly used on the site, "La Nena de Laredo," or "Laredo Girl." Her head was found placed on a large stone piling nearby.

"Nuevo Laredo en Vivo and social networking sites, I'm The Laredo Girl, and I'm here because of my reports, and yours," the message read. "For those who don't want to believe, this happened to me because of my actions, for believing in the army and the navy. Thank you for your attention, respectfully, Laredo Girl...ZZZZ."

The letter "Z" refers to the hyper-violent Zetas drug cartel, which is believed to dominate the city across from Laredo, Texas.

It was unclear how the killers found out her real identity.

Much needed U.S. jobs outsourced !!! California Bridge Manufactured in China !!!

SHANGHAI — Talk about outsourcing.

At a sprawling manufacturing complex here, hundreds of Chinese laborers are now completing work on the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge.

Next month, the last four of more than two dozen giant steel modules — each with a roadbed segment about 50 yards long — will be loaded onto a huge ship and transported 6,500 miles to Oakland. There, they will be assembled to fit into the eastern span of the new Bay Bridge.

The assembly work in California, and the pouring of the concrete road surface, will be done by Americans. But construction of the bridge decks and the materials that went into them are a Made in China affair. California officials say the state saved hundreds of millions of dollars by turning to China.

The new structure, expected to open to traffic in 2013, will replace a bridge that has never been quite the same since the 1989 Bay Area earthquake.

“They’ve produced a pretty impressive bridge for us,’’ Tony Anziano, a program manager at the California Department of Transportation, said a few weeks ago. He was touring the 1.2-square-mile manufacturing site that the Chinese company created to do the bridge work. Obama Adviser: Shutdown Looms as GOP Bends to Will of Tea Party

WASHINGTON -- Republican leaders are putting the demands of 30 Tea Party members over 300 million Americans, a top White House adviser said Sunday, insisting that Congress pass a resolution to keep government functioning and approve President Obama's jobs plan.

Senior adviser David Plouffe, who managed the president's 2008 campaign, said the Tea Party is controlling the debate in Congress, even as it comes close to a government shutdown over how to pay for disaster relief as part of a continuing resolution to keep government operating. 

"We're not going to make progress on the deficit, on things we can do right now for jobs, on tax cuts, unless those 30 or 40 Tea Party members of the Republican House stop being the focal point of our discussion," Plouffe said.

Senate Democrats on Friday defeated a House GOP-backed stopgap continuing resolution to fund the government through Nov. 18 by a vote of 59-36. The $1.04 trillion measure contained $3.7 billion for disaster aid, $200 million of which was offset by cuts to green energy programs, including a loan account that once helped fund the now-defunct, controversial solar panel firm Solyndra.

Without a continuing resolution, government is set to shut down on Friday. But the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Disaster Relief Fund is poised to run out of cash by Tuesday, if not earlier, with the account at the dangerously-low level of $175 million, according to Senate aides.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has offered a substitute for the CR that strips the offsets, and a procedural vote is set for Monday night in the Senate. But the chamber's GOP leader, Mitch McConnell, predicted that bill's demise.

"Our friends on the other side don't like the idea. They'd rather just add these funds to the deficit. Why?," McConnell asked on Friday. "Because they say that's the way we've always done things around here. Well, I think there's a lesson we can draw from the debates we've been having here over the last six months, is that the American people won't accept that excuse any longer."

But it was probably justified, because Polonsky was the first to say he wanted to "stick one in the mouth."

Now, Polonsky could have been talking about getting a cherry-flavored lollipop for himself, or sticking one (cigarette) in the (cat's) mouth, or any number of things. But it also might have meant that he was about to punch Lebedev in the kisser. As Lebedev wrote on his blog, "In a critical situation, there is no choice. I see no reason to be hit with the first shot. I neutralized him."

The most critically injured victim in the skirmish was Lebedev's tight jeans, which suffered tearing.

Obama says GOP would 'cripple' America !!!

SEATTLE (AP) -- President Barack Obama charged Sunday that the GOP vision of government would "fundamentally cripple America," as he tried out his newly combative message on the liberal West Coast.


Aiming to renew the ardor of Democratic loyalists who have grown increasingly disenchanted with him, the president mixed frontal attacks on Republicans with words of encouragement intended to buck up the faithful as the 2012 campaign revs up.


"From the moment I took office what we've seen is a constant ideological pushback against any kind of sensible reforms that would make our economy work better and give people more opportunity," the president said at an intimate brunch fundraiser at the Medina, Wash., home of former Microsoft executive Jon Shirley.


About 65 guests were paying $35,800 per couple to listen to Obama at the first of seven fundraisers he was holding from Seattle to Hollywood to San Diego on Sunday and Monday. The three-day West Coast swing, ending Tuesday in Denver, offered him the chance to re-engage with some of his most liberal and deep-pocketed supporters.

NASA's 'Salt of the Earth' Aquarius Reveals First Map

NASA's new Aquarius instrument has produced its first global map of the salinity, or saltiness, of Earth's ocean surface, providing an early glimpse of the mission's anticipated discoveries. Its rich tapestry of global salinity patterns demonstrates Aquarius' ability to resolve large-scale salinity distribution features clearly and with sharp contrast. The map provides a much better picture of ocean surface salinity than the Aquarius science team expected to have this early in the mission.

The new map is a composite of the first two and a half weeks of data since Aquarius became operational on August 25. The numerical values represent salt concentration in parts per thousand (grams of salt per kilogram of sea water). Yellow and red colors represent areas of higher salinity, with blues and purples indicating areas of lower salinity. Areas colored black are gaps in the data. The average salinity on the map is about 35.

The map reveals predominantly well-known ocean salinity features, such as higher salinity in the subtropics, higher average salinity in the Atlantic Ocean compared to the Pacific and Indian Oceans, and lower salinity in rainy belts near the equator, in the northernmost Pacific Ocean and elsewhere. These features are related to large-scale patterns of rainfall and evaporation over the ocean, river outflow and ocean circulation. Aquarius will monitor how these features change over time and study their link to climate and weather variations.

Other important regional features are clearly evident, including a sharp contrast between the arid, high-salinity Arabian Sea west of the Indian subcontinent, and the low-salinity Bay of Bengal to the east, which is dominated by the Ganges River and south Asia monsoon rains. The data also show important smaller details, such as a larger-than-expected extent of low-salinity water associated with outflow from the Amazon River.

To produce the map, Aquarius scientists performed a preliminary calibration of the early data gathered by comparing them with ocean surface salinity reference data. These early data contain some uncertainties, and months of additional calibration and data validation work remain. For example, measurements in the southernmost ocean regions are not yet reliable as they have large uncertainties associated with high winds and low surface temperatures. The north-south striped patterns visible throughout the image are artifacts of small residual calibration errors and are not real. In addition, low salinity values immediately adjacent to land and ice-covered areas are due to proximity to coastlines or ice edges, which introduces errors into the data that will require additional analyses to correct.

Aquarius is making NASA's first space observations of ocean surface salinity variations, a key component of Earth's climate that is linked to the cycling of freshwater around our planet and that influences ocean circulation. The Aquarius/SAC-D (Satélite de Aplicaciones Cientí­ficas) observatory is a collaboration between NASA and Argentina's space agency, Comisión Nacional de Actividades Espaciales (CONAE). The mission launched June 10, 2011, from California's Vandenberg Air Force Base.

Aquarius was built by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., and the Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md. NASA's Launch Services Program, at Kennedy Space Center in Florida, managed the launch. JPL is managing Aquarius through its commissioning phase and will archive mission data. Goddard will manage Aquarius mission operations and process science data. CONAE is providing the SAC-D spacecraft, an optical camera, a thermal camera with Canada, a microwave radiometer, other sensors and the mission operations center. France and Italy also are contributing instruments.
