Video: Gingrich surging in South Carolina

The InsiderAdvantage poll of South Carolina likely Republican primary voters shows Newt Gingrich surging, coming within a statistical tie of Mitt Romney.

The poll of 726 registered voters was completed Wednesday night and offered the following results:

Romney -- 23 percent

Gingrich -- 21 percent

Santorum -- 14 percent

Paul -- 13 percent

Huntsman -- 7 percent

Perry -- 5 percent

Three new polls show former House Speaker Newt Gingrich gaining on Mitt Romney in South Carolina and emerging as the clear conservative choice of voters who are not backing the former Massachusetts governor for the Republican presidential nomination.

An Insider Advantage/Majority Opinion Research survey completed on Thursday shows that Gingrich is actually in a statistical tie with Romney in South Carolina, with 21.3 percent of the vote to Romney’s 23.1.

Gingrich leads Romney in several demographic groups, including voters 18 to 29 years old, black voters, male voters, and Independents.

Ron Paul and Rick Santorum each received 13 percent of the vote.

The latest Rasmussen Reports poll of likely Republican voters in South Carolina finds Romney ahead with 28 percent of the vote, but Gingrich has moved into second place with 21 percent. Santorum had been in second a week ago, but has now fallen back to 16 percent, dead even with Paul.

And an American Research Group (ARG) poll completed Thursday shows that Gingrich has closed the gap with Romney to just four points in South Carolina. Romney drew 29 percent of the votes, down from 31 percent a week earlier, while Gingrich rose from 24 percent to 25 percent. Santorum, meanwhile, plunged from 24 percent to just 7 percent, and Paul now has 20 percent of the votes.

The ARG survey also found Gingrich leading Romney among voters who say they are supporters of the tea party, 28 percent to 24 percent. Among evangelical Christians, Gingrich gets 40 percent of the vote, followed by Rick Perry with 15 percent, Romney with 13 percent, Santorum with 12 percent, and Paul at 10 percent.

That poll also shows that Paul has overtaken Romney as the favorite among Independents, beating Romney by a margin of 29 percent to 27 percent.

GINGRICH RESPONSE TO DECEMBER JOBS REPORT: WE NEED A REAGAN CONSERVATIVE

Hanover, NH - Newt Gingrich made the following statement today in response to this morning's report of 8.5% unemployment for the month of December 2011:

"Three full years into the Obama presidency, and there are still 1.7 million fewer Americans going to work today than there were on Obama's Inauguration day.

"Today’s new December unemployment figure doesn’t capture the full scale of the tragedy: almost 24 million Americans still unemployed, working part-time for economic reasons, or discouraged from looking for work.

"The Obama experiment has failed, and it is time to look to proven solutions that have successfully empowered job-creators in the past.

"Ronald Reagan enacted historic income tax rate cuts, a stronger and more stable dollar, regulatory reforms, and spending controls. Three years into his recovery, Americans had created about 9.5 million jobs. When we took control of the House in 1995, we moved quickly to balance the budget, reform entitlements, and make the largest capital gains tax cut in history – three years later, 8 million more Americans were going into work every day.

"Now more than ever, America needs a Reagan conservative in the White House."

If he did, it only matters because he claims that he’s on site in Detroit. Since he said that, if he’s not, then the president lies in the opening sentence or two of what should be an apolitical address. It’s not a campaign speech, but a president addressing the people.

That said, here’s the video, followed by my opinion of whether it’s fake or not.

I’ve been doing green screen video effects for about 15 years, starting at NASA and then for Hot Air. So I’ve done hundreds of productions using green screen technology, in a variety of settings and using a variety of gear. And in my opinion, the president’s video was shot using a green screen.

There are a couple of giveaways. One is the lack of real depth of field in the shot. The background looks flat and unreal, kind of lifeless — like a photograph. No light flickers, no movement at all. If he was really in the factory, a competent lighting director would probably light him and it to show some separation and depth, by having the factory be noticeably darker than the foreground subject. There are also digital artifacts around his shoulders and head, the kind of artifacts one tends to see in even the best green screens. You can see them in the close-ups, mainly around the left side of his head. It looks like they used virtual set tech to get the long shots and close-ups to look believable, but it’s pretty much a fail.

This wouldn’t be a big deal, except that he says “I’m here in Detroit visiting workers at a GM plant.” There are no workers in the shot, and he’s not at a factory. So like his jobs bill that he’s selling in the video, the video itself is a fraud.

How fitting, that a friend of a Weatherman would resort to the schtick of weather men.

Perry Aims to Charge Up Campaign With Energy-Focused Jobs Plan

Rick Perry, aiming to charge up his presidential campaign and fend off claims that his economic prescriptions are vague, unveiled the first plank of his jobs plan Friday with a focus on domestic energy production. 

"This American jobs plan is based on a simple premise: Make what Americans buy, buy what Americans make, and sell it to the world," the Texas governor said at a steel plant outside Pittsburgh, Pa.

"We are standing atop the next American economic boom -- energy -- and the quickest way to give our economy a shot in the arm is to deploy American ingenuity to tap American energy. But we can only do that if environmental bureaucrats are told to stand down."

Much needed U.S. jobs outsourced !!! California Bridge Manufactured in China !!!

SHANGHAI — Talk about outsourcing.

At a sprawling manufacturing complex here, hundreds of Chinese laborers are now completing work on the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge.

Next month, the last four of more than two dozen giant steel modules — each with a roadbed segment about 50 yards long — will be loaded onto a huge ship and transported 6,500 miles to Oakland. There, they will be assembled to fit into the eastern span of the new Bay Bridge.

The assembly work in California, and the pouring of the concrete road surface, will be done by Americans. But construction of the bridge decks and the materials that went into them are a Made in China affair. California officials say the state saved hundreds of millions of dollars by turning to China.

The new structure, expected to open to traffic in 2013, will replace a bridge that has never been quite the same since the 1989 Bay Area earthquake.

“They’ve produced a pretty impressive bridge for us,’’ Tony Anziano, a program manager at the California Department of Transportation, said a few weeks ago. He was touring the 1.2-square-mile manufacturing site that the Chinese company created to do the bridge work.
