Herman Cain Heckled By OWS Protesters

Though he assured the dean of Middle Tennessee State University that there would be no politics during his visit, Herman Cain called it “tempting” to respond to a handful of protesters who interrupted his lecture here Thursday night.

As Cain was recounting his climb up the Pillsbury company’s corporate ladder to a full lecture hall of about 300 students, someone shouted, “Mic check!” setting off a minute’s worth of shouting from the audience. “We are the 99 percent!” several representing Occupy Wall Street chanted; “Sexual abuse is unacceptable!” one student hollered.

In counter-protest, several students yelled at the protesters to leave; one said, “We actually want to hear him, now get out!” Shortly afterwards, the protesters did.

Cain was silent through the episode, with the exception of asking once, “Are y’all done?” When the hecklers had left, Cain made one comment before moving on with his speech.

“I committed to the dean that I’m not going to address any political issues today,” he said. “But do you know how tempting that is? Not gonna do it, dean, not gonna do it! Now I think I was on my way to becoming president of something,” he said to laughs.

But later in the speech, Cain revisited the issue and implied that the protesters were “abusing” their right to free speech.

“Don’t be embarrassed that those young people wanted to stand up and talk about that they’re part of the 99 percent,” he said. “We have freedom of speech, some people simply abuse it.”
Shortly after, he continued, “That’s fine, I didn’t get rattled. You know, All I – the way to attribute it was, they wanted to disrupt my part because they couldn’t attract anyone to comelisten to them talk!”

Event organizers said Cain had committed to speak almost a year ago, as a former corporate head and successful businessman. Now, Cain is reevaluating a once meteoric presidential campaign following one claim that he carried on a 13-year extramarital affair and several allegations of sexual harassment from his tenure as head of the National Restaurant Association.

In an appearance on Fox News on Thursday night, Cain said he’ll make a decision about whether to continue his campaign before Monday.

“We haven’t worked out the logistics yet,” he said. “The decision could be, we’re going to continue with this campaign full speed ahead. The decision could be that were going to suspend the campaign. That’s why I’m doing the re-assessment.”

Though Cain campaign manager Mark Block assured National Journal earlier this week that Cain dropping out of the race was not an option, Cain has since said the decision lies in the hands of his wife Gloria, whom he will meet Friday in person for the first time since a woman accused him of having an affair with her.

Beleaguered Barack Obama asked voters last night to keep believing in the 'hope and change' he promised in 2008, saying he needed more time to turn America around.

But in an admission that will alarm those who helped him sweep to power three years ago, the President admitted it was 'tempting to believe that change may not be as possible as we thought.'

His plea came as Occupy Wall Street protesters began to turn on him, with dozens of demonstrators calling for a stop to re-election politics and economic inequality.

At a series of fundraisers in New York, where he raised a reported $2.4million for his campaign and those of other Democrats, Mr Obama acknowledged frustration over the stalemate in Washington which has soured views of his leadership.

'It has been three wrenching years for this country,' said Mr Obama, who said he needed another term to fully address the economy, the environment and other issues.

'Every single thing that we care about is at stake in this next election,' the President said. 'It’s going to take more than a few years to meet the challenges that have been decades in the making.'

While protests against him raged, Mr Obama sat inside the Sheraton hotel, hosting one of several fundraising dinners that ranged from $1,000 to nearly $36,000-a-plate.

The demonstrators, who were evicted from their Lower Manhattan encampment at Zuccotti Park on November 15, were surrounded by police trying to keep them off the road as they played drums and held up signs near the building on Seventh Avenue and 53rd Street. 

The President landed in New York at 5.14 yesterday afternoon, snarling traffic around Manhattan for a three-stop fundraising effort that aggravated commuters.

Mr Obama attended three fundraisers in the city: one at the home of businessman Jack Rosen, chairman of the American Jewish Congress, where tickets went for at least $10,000; one at the Greenwich Village restaurant Gotham Bar and Grill at $35,800 per ticket; and a reception at the Sheraton Hotel, where tickets began at $1,000.

New York One reports the President raised $2.4million on Wednesday night. 

The money will be split between the Democratic National Committee and the Obama re-election campaign.

Mr Obama, escorted by a motorcade of police vehicles, was expected to appear at the Sheraton hotel at 9pm.

And while streets were gridlocked through Manhattan for the President's visit, the 45-minute march from Bryant Park added to the chaos near Rockefeller Plaza as tens of thousands of pedestrians flocked to the midtown area to watch the annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony.

Shortly before Mr Obama's arrival, protesters were penned in an enclosure of barricades, informed that the area had been designated a 'frozen zone' until the President’s departure.

Mr Obama took to the road with a dual pitch for money, campaigning for more cash in the pockets of U.S. workers - and for his campaign treasury as well.

He had earlier pressed his case at a campaign-style rally in working-class Scranton, Pennsylvania where he said Republicans had to choose between lower taxes for the wealthy, or a payroll tax cut that would help working Americans. Republicans say they would support extending the payroll tax cut, but reject new taxes to offset the costs.

Later, in donor-rich New York City where he was raising money for his already flush re-election bid, he took a more conciliatory tone, acknowledging that Republicans such as House Speaker John Boehner of Ohio and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky were also willing to extend the payroll tax, though not with a tax increase on millionaires.

'For the last couple of days Mr Boehner and Mr McConnell have both indicated that it probably does make sense not to have taxes go up for middle class families, particularly since they've all taken an oath not to raise taxes,' Mr Obama told about 50 donors at Gotham Bar and Grill in Greenwich Village. 'And so it's possible we'll see some additional progress in the next couple of weeks that can continue to help strengthen the economy.'

At Mr Rosen's Upper East Side residence, Mr Obama expressed support for Israel, after his host noted 'concern' about U.S.-Israeli relations among some Jewish voters, and he spoke of progress that has been made on restoring the economy.

'Bottom line is this: Over the past three years we've made progress. People aren't feeling all that progress so far because we had fallen so far. But the trajectory of the country at this point is sound,' Mr Obama said.

The President had private time and posed for pictures with groups of Latino supporters and gay and lesbian backers before he addressed the Sheraton fundraiser, the last of the night.

'Every single thing that we care about is at stake in the next election,' he told that crowd. 'The very core of what this country stands for is on the line.'

The populist pitch in Scranton and the fundraisers in New York served as political bookends for the President and illustrated the dual policy and political demands on him as the 2012 campaign season nears.

He first rallied the type of working-class crowd that would benefit from the tax cuts and then appealed for campaign contributions from donors, many of whom would be the ones to shoulder the tax increases Obama supports.

Obama told one group of donors that he still needs to make sure that key aspects of the health care law get implemented in 2014, that banking regulations are enacted and that energy policies are updated.

'I'm going to need another term to finish the job,' he said.

The video hadn’t been shown to the public until now. Eyewitnesses started shooting video of it all when they first saw the man walking around, firing the gun at the downtown Houston park last week.

One eyewitness was able to capture the event on camera until the very end, when police took the gunman down with several shots before any innocent bystanders were hit.

Dressed in a black suit and smoking a cigarette, a 21-year-old begins firing an assault weapon in a downtown park. As several eyewitness try to warn others, David Loeser reaches for his camera. Loeser, interested in the nearby Occupy movement, was talking with friends when Joshua Anthony Twohig began firing a .40-caliber-assault-rifle in Tranquility Park.

“When he walked onto the bridge and shot the first shots in the water, I was just in minorshock and was like, ‘Oh I got my camera!’” Loeser.

Twohig paces back and forth on a pedestrian bridge; at times, he even put the rifle to his head. As police arrive on scene however, Twohig refuses to drop the rifle and he’s taken down by several shots.

Twohig was rushed to a hospital for several gun shot wounds. Eyewitness News has since learned Twohig is married with a one-year-old child.

Neighbors say he recently lost his job and his wife underwent major surgery.

However, Loeser says it’s was a miracle that between Twohig and police firing several rounds, no innocent bystanders were injured.

“It’s just totally just incredible that the only person that got injured was himself,” Loeser said.

Twohig is still hospitalized in fair condition.

In the meantime, police have not given a motive for the shooting, as it remains under investigation.

Tea Party Alleges Double Standard by Occupy-Friendly Mayor in Virginia

A Tea Party chapter in Virginia is alleging that it was audited by the City of Richmond after it complained that the local Occupy movement was receiving special treatment by the mayor.

The Richmond Tea Party said the city charged it $10,000 to hold three rallies in Kanawha Plaza -- where Occupiers have been allowed to reside at no charge.

Now the Tea Partiers are crying foul and demanding their money back. But shortly after complaining to the city, the Tea Party group said it received notice of the tax audit.


“As the Occupy mob sprang up, the City of Richmond allowed them the use of the park at no charge. Mayor Dwight Jones of Richmond is a liberal Democrat, who even visited the Occupy Mob, encouraging them,” the group said in a statement released Monday. “In one of the most outrageous political double standards, the city of Richmond, Va., is now demanding an audit of the Richmond Tea Party."

But the city denies any double standard.

“Any allegations are just completely unfounded,” Tammy Hawley, a city spokeswoman, told FoxNews.com. She said City Hall was completely unaware of the Tea Party chapter’s claims until receiving inquiries from various media outlets.

The Tea Party came up during a recent query by Richmond’s finance department of a list of 700 groups and businesses that had not paid excise taxes for admissions, lodging and meals.

Man Arrested for Threatening Nikki Haley’s Life Was An Occupy Wall Street Sympathizer

The 26-year-old North Carolina man arrested for allegedly threatening the life of South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, surprise surprise, is sympathizer of Occupy Wall Street protesters. According to WISTV, Nathan Shafer was arrested Wednesday for threatening the life of Gov. Haley by commenting on a post made by the Governor on her Facebook wall November 16, ”I hope someone murders you before I do, how’s that for freedom of speech?”

WISTV reports that Shafer made the comment after hearing about the arrests of 19 Occupy Columbia protesters outside the State House last Monday.

State Law Enforcement Division agents visited Shafer in Charlotte two days after the comment. Shafer tells WISTV that he “retracted and deleted his statement, promised he wasn’t serious and apologized to the Haley family.” Two days after the visit Shafer was told he would be prosecuted for the threat. and turned himself in at noon Wednesday.

While Shafer claims he was not serious and “the whole situation is completely ridiculous and blown out of proportion,” several commentators have asked why should comments made by Tea Party members be considered threats, but Occupy Wall Street statements seen as in jest? Howard Portney points to the case of Brian Dean Miller, the Dallas man sentenced to 27 months in jail after posting on Craigslist:


“People, the time has come for revolution. It is time for Obama to die. I am dedicating my life to the death of Obama and every employee of the federal government. As I promised in a previous post, if the health care reform bill passed I would become a terrorist. Today I become a terrorist.”

WISTV acknowledges another federal court ruling from July that said a man was merely exercising his free speech rights when he posted online statements calling for President Barack Obama’s assassination.

The State reports that Shafer is charged with threatening the life, person or family of a public official. A SLED arrest warrant said he admitted to making the threat.

10 Oklahoma City "OWS" Members Arrested In Del City Walmart

DEL CITY, Okla. -- Ten members of the Occupy OKC movement are facing charges of disorderly conduct after being arrested inside a Del City Walmart early Friday morning.

According to Del City police, officers working off-duty security at Walmart called for backup when members of the Occupy movement began chanting and yelling near the back of the store.

A video posted by Occupy OKC shows Walmart employees asking the protesters to leave, who begin walking toward the front of the store. Then, the video shows a Del City officer running toward a protester. Witnesses said officers tackled and handcuffed the protesters.

Police arrested the protesters and transported them to the Del City police department. All 10 are facing charges of disorderly conduct. One person faces an additional charge of resisting arrest.

"I think this was clearly excessive force," said Mark Faulk, one of the protesters who was arrested. "I think it was very clear we were compliant with every single thing they asked of us."

Del City police said they are still reviewing the specifics of what happened inside the store, but the case will now make its way through the court system.

The protesters have hired an attorney who plans to fight the charges and see if the officers committed any civil rights violations.

"It’s a pretty vague charge," said Brittany Novotny, who's representing Occupy OKC. "I don’t think these folks are guilty of disorderly conduct. They were asked to leave by store personnel. They tried to do so and, at that point, a couple of them were tackled and arrested."

According to Occupy OKC, activists held similar protests inside two other metro Walmarts, but did not have any confrontation with police.

Al Sharpton ‘grateful’ for Occupy Wall Street on Thanksgiving !!!

Thanksgiving can mean different things to different people depending on their point of view, whether it is William Jennings Bryan suggesting it’s an acknowledgement of dependence, or Rush Limbaugh suggesting it is a lesson of self-reliance and a rejection of collectivism.

But MSNBC host Al Sharpton had something else in mind for his reflections on this holiday. On his Wednesday radio program, Sharpton gave thanks for the Occupy Wall Street movement.

“Last year we had just come out of the midterm elections where the Republicans gained 61 seats and we were under siege by the tea party,” Sharpton said. “This year, Occupy Wall Street, whatever its shortcomings, it changed the conversation to where we are now talking about economic inequality — 1 percent versus 99. I am grateful for that.”

Occupy Miami Founder/CAIR Executive Director To Jews: “Go Back To The Ovens!”

(WND) — The recent executive director of the controversial Council on American-Islamic Relations’ South Florida chapter is a founder and spokesman of Occupy Miami, WND has learned.

Mohammad Malik currently is as an activist with several other Islamic groups.

He has led hate-filled anti-Israel protests in which participants were filmed wearing Hamas paraphernalia while chanting “Nuke Israel” and “Go back to the oven” – a reference to Jews being killed in the Holocaust.

Malik has been widely quoted in the Florida news media in recent weeks speaking for Occupy Miami.

The Miami Herald identified Malik as one of the organizers of Occupy’s Miami’s downtown campsite headquarters.

CNN Guest Compares OWS to Boston Tea Party

CNN guest and "community organizer" Sally Kohn compared the Occupy Wall Street movement to the Boston Tea Party on Wednesday's American Morning. When asked about "fair criticisms" of the movement as one possessing criminal elements, Kohn responded that the Boston Tea Party was viewed as a criminal element in its day, but was vindicated by history.

"So, first, you know, when early Americans were throwing boxes of tea from private corporations into the Boston Harbor, they were initially labeled as criminal elements, too," sounded Kohn. [Video below the break. Click here for audio.

"So, history does tend to look more favorably on protests and see the protesters as justified and as patriots rather than as problems," she added, meaning that history would probably vindicate the Wall Street protesters.

Kohn was the second liberal guest American Morning hosted to talk about Occupy Wall Street, the first being one of the protesters. No conservative guests or opponents of the protests were interviewed on American Morning. Kohn, a community organizer, is the founder of the progressive Movement Vision Lab and is working to "make the world safe for radical ideas."

In the previous hour, co-host Carol Costello gave a very soft interview to protester Dan Cantor, who oddly compared the protesters with fans of the "Twilight" movies.

Cantor defended the protest encampments in Zuccotti Park, saying that "people wait in line in New York, they camp out for a week to buy the tickets to the new 'Twilight' movie, so it's not like we're not used to encampments here."

Protester throws fit in McDonald's when he can't get free food !!!

NEW YORK -- An "Occupy Wall Street" protester threw a violent fit in a McDonald’s after employees refused to give him free food.

Fisika Bezabeh, 27, ripped a credit-card reader from a counter and threw it at workers at about 2:30am local time Friday at the downtown Manhattan restaurant, which has become a bathroom spot for protesters.

No one was hurt by Bezabeh, who has been seen hanging out with protesters in the occupied park, police sources said.

He was charged with criminal mischief.

Cheryll Forsatz, a McDonald’s spokeswoman, said, “It’s still an ongoing police investigation, and we’re cooperating with the police.”
