Merry Chrisssstmas !!! Family finds SNAKE in their Christmas tree !!!

Christmas trees are meant to conceal surprises - but one family were definitely not expecting what they found in theirs.

The Baine family from Zebulon, North Carolina discovered a snake lurking among the baubles in their festive fir.

Casey Baine, 34, took a video of the moment her husband Tony took the slithering creature from the tree.

The couple’s six-year-old daughter Rachel spotted the snake while she was kneeling down to turn on the Christmas lights.

‘I screamed as loud as I could,’ she said. ‘He was gonna bite me.’

 

Luckily, the creature turned out to be a 12-inch corn snake and non-poisonous.

In fact, Tony, Rachel and her brother Eli wanted to keep the snake – and named him Tinsel ‘as he looked like a piece of tinsel in the tree’.

But Mrs Baine was having none of it – and Tinsel now lives in the woods near their home.

Mrs Baine, who filmed the snake on her iPhone, said: ‘[Tony] told me that there was a snake in the tree. And even when I saw, it was so still that I thought it was fake.

‘So I shook the tree a little bit and that's when he moved.

‘The snake wasn't poisonous and was probably harmless but it was still uninvited and unwelcome in our home.’

On the film, Mr Baine can be seen wrangling with the snake while his wife screams. Gently handling the creature, he then shows his children, who are more than happy to pet it.

The family was particularly surprised to find the snake as they have an artificial tree, and ‘most would assume it would have been a live tree’.

The tree had been stored in a shelf in their garage.

‘We keep the tree in the garage,’ Mrs Baines explained. ‘I don't know if he was on the branch when my husband put it together or what.Unwelcome: Mrs Baine, left, said she thought the corn snake was fake at first.

'I just can't imagine my husband putting it together, touching every branch, without noticing it.’

The finding is reminiscent of 1989 film National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, where the accident-prone Griswold family discovers a squirrel in their Christmas tree.

It comes after another family in Meridian, Idaho called the fire department after finding a snake in their recently-purchased tree.

Crickett Rudd, Horticulturist at the FarWest Landscape and Garden in Boise said ‘that sometimes on rare occasions little critters and animals can get inside the wrapped Christmas trees, during the delivery process to try to stay warm’.

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg helped light the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree. The 74-foot-tall Norway spruce was illuminated by 30,000 lights during a ceremony Wednesday night.

New Yorkers are in for the mother of all traffic nightmares Wednesday night, when the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree-lighting coincides with a Barack Obama fundraiser just a few blocks away. The double-booking has drawn criticism from area business leaders, Republican Party officials and now business mogul Donald Trump, who attacked the president’s decision in a YouTube video on Tuesday.

The video, titled “Inconsiderate Obama,” is one of more than fifty brief spots that show Trump pontificating from his desk chair.

“We have a problem,” Trump said in the short video. “We have a president that doesn’t give a damn about inconveniencing people. And I want to talk about inconvenience. You will never see a mess like this tomorrow night. President Obama is holding a fundraiser, another of his fundraisers, hundreds of them. Every day he’s holding fundraisers. He doesn’t govern, all he does is raise money so he can try and get reelected, so he can put the country further in the hole. So he’s having a fundraiser right near Rockefeller Center, where thousands of people are coming to see the tree light up. Isn’t that a shame?”

Trump went on to describe the possible scene Wednesday night as the president’s parties collide with the illumination of a 74-foot Norway spruce and performances by Justin Beiber, Cee Lo Green and Tony Bennett.

“The streets are going to be closed — everything’s going to be closed because of his security. Let me tell you, this president is a much different person than people know. He’s a very inconsiderate guy.”

“Stop with the fundraisers and start running the country,” Trump added, addressing Obama directly, “because you’re doing one hell of a lousy job.”

The president will attend a fundraiser on Wednesday hosted by New York City gay and lesbian organizations, and then attend a reception for his early supporters.
